Our History
The History of Lennon Training
Lennon Training currently employ twelve full time and part-time instructors with agents acting on behalf of Lennon Training in Emerald & Dysart. These instructors are supported by the administration base of nine full time / part time people. Like all private business, it didn’t start that way ……
Kerry and Lexia Lennon commenced Lennon Training in July 1991 in response to a gap in local training services and the company was registered with the Australian government in 1992. Lennon Training operates from their Emerald headquarters and training rooms, providing clients throughout the Queensland Coal Mining Industry with quality advice, support and training.
In 1993 Lennon Training obtained their Quality Assurance licence allowing courses to be written and approved for national recognition. Also obtained was the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status from the Queensland Government.
2002 saw the training centre in Mackay open to cater to our clients in the northern Central QLD coalfields.
2004 marked the year that Kerry took on an advisory role whilst the company continued to be operated by family members, John Lennon and Donna Lennon.
In 2005, Lennon Training extended their services to the China Coal industry. As a result, an office based in Beijing was established to ensure the needs of State and Company representatives could be attended to locally.
2006, after 15 years, saw the Emerald operations move into their purpose-built Training Centre in Kyle St.
In early 2007 the China operations further expanded with the establishment of a Registered Company in China based out of Suzhou. As 2007 drew to a close, the year reflected the efforts made by all and with the announcement of being compliant with the Major Government Audit, it’s clear that Lennon Training have established a balance with industry needs that meet nationally recognised standards.
2008 demonstrated further established commitment to the local coal industry with the completion of an additional training building and commencement of building a simulated underground mine.
2009 launched the simulated underground mine as a purpose built facility to support existing training programs and provide exciting options for customised programs which led to Industry recognition in 2010 with the Mining Industry Skills Centre Innovation Award.
Lennon Training are known for their enthusiasm toward training and communicating the emphasis of safety in the workplace. Having instructors that maintain their knowledge and experience by working at various minesites ensures that the people attending the training are being trained by local people with local knowledge and experience. Testimonial of our quality of work can be seen in the repeat business we have from our clients.
